Specimen Requirements

Specimen TypePreferred Container/TubeAcceptable Container/TubeSpecimen VolumeSpecimen Minimum Volume
(allows for 1 repeat)
Whole Blood
3- Streck 10 mL tubes
30 mL total: 10 mL in each of the three DNA Streck tubes
20 mL
Collection Processing Instructions

Provider will give patient a test kit and completed requisition form. Patient will present in phlebotomy for blood draw with the kit and requisition form.

Collect the whole blood specimen using a 21 gauge straight needle, NOT a butterfly, as the use of butterfly needles can result in a need to redraw the specimen.  Completely fill THREE 10 mL cell free DNA Streck tubes supplied in the collection kit.  Allow 60-90 seconds for each tube to fill.  Vein collapse may require second venipuncture with a fresh tube.

Gently invert each tube at least 10 times immediately after it is filled. Do not shake the tube(s) vigorously.  Do not seal tubes with paraffin film.  DO NOT REFRIGERATE OR FREEZE sample at any time.  Store and transport specimen tubes at ambient temperature (43-98 ºF or 6-37 ºC) with the kit-provided temperature-regulating pack.

Send tubes and requisition form in kit box to Marshfield Labs Specimen Processing for packaging and shipping.

NOTE:  If this test is ordered together with the “Unity Screen Carrier Screen with Reflex sgNIPT" test, only 3 Streck tubes are required in total (i.e. ordering both tests does not require a total of 6 Streck tubes).
