Useful For

This test is useful for the direct detection and differentiation of Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) nasal colonization.  If only MRSA is being sought, refer to test code ‘MRSAD’ – MRSA Detection PCR.

Collection Processing Instructions

Specimens should be delivered to the microbiology laboratory as soon as possible. 

Swabs:

  • ​Nasal specimen collected with a COPAN Dual Swab. Leave swabs attached to the red cap. Do not cut or break swabs off to place them in the tube.
  • ESwab collect one swab
