Test Components

​Kaolin TEG+ Citrated Functional Fibrinogen with Heparinase (R-H, K-H, ANG-H, MA-H, LY30H, FF-MA)

Useful For

​Assessing if prolonged R (Reaction time) on standard TEG is due to circulating heparin and evaluating Functional Fibrinogen Level for patients on heparin. TEGHEP assay is also helpful to assess presence of heparin in patients post CABG when heparin rebound is suspected and for patients in cardiovascular surgery while on pump or when TEG6S is not available.

Collection Processing Instructions

​Note: Test is only orderable at MMC – Marshfield

Do not use a needle smaller than a 21 gauge for collection.  Obtain appropriate volume of blood in first tube labeled DISCARD.  Obtain full tubes for sample specimens.  It is best to store tubes by laying them on their side, instead of standing them in a rack.  Deliver to lab immediately. Sample must arrive in lab within 15 minutes of collection.  Cannot be shared with other coagulation tests.

Do not centrifuge sample.  Keep sample at room temperature. Send tubes ASAP in 4" or 6" tube system.  If using 6", use foam inserts in carrier.  Call 1-6363 to notify.
