Useful For

To assess platelet function for trauma patients and cardiovascular surgery patients.  Assessing the effect of antiplatelet medications [either P2Y12 drug (i.e. clopidogrel, prasugrel, or ticagrelor) and/or aspirin) will aid in guiding blood component therapy and/or timing for invasive surgical procedure.

Collection Processing Instructions

​Do not use a needle smaller than a 21 gauge for collection. 

  • To ensure accurate results, clear A-line or CVC prior to collecting sample. For venipuncture, collect Discard tube (plain White or Blue top tube). Write 'Discard' on tube. 
  • Collect full non-gel GTT.  If sample volume under 2.5mL in a 4mL tube, recollect. It is best to store tubes by laying them on their side, instead of standing them in a rack. 
  • Deliver to lab immediately. If collected at MMC-Marshfield, sample must be hand walked to the laboratory, and delivered to Specimen Processing.

Do not centrifuge sample specimen.  Keep at room temperature.
