Specimen Requirements

Collection Processing Instructions
​Serum to be obtained from blood collected in tubes without gel barriers must be centrifuged and removed from cells within one hour of collection for storage and transport.
 
Serum to be obtained from blood collected in gel barrier tubes must be centrifuged within one hour of collection.  Remove from the gel barrier prior to transporting aliquot to Marshfield Center.  Do not send the primary collection tube.
 
EDTA (LTT) tube for GH should not be centrifuged, send original whole blood tube.

Samples not meeting specimen requirements or stability information.
​Specimens in contact with cells for more than 2 hours.
Interference
​Sulfasalazine may interfere with ALT assays and cause falsely depressed results. 
For patients receiving treatment, venipuncture should occur prior to drug administration to prevent this interference.
