HLA Matched Platelet
Test Code: SDP
Synonyms/Keywords
HLA Platelet, Ref lab code HLATX (2303), HLAIDSO (2226)
Useful For

HLA-matched platelets are indicated in patients who have become refractory to platelet transfusions due to HLA alloimmunization.  Refer to HLA-Matched Platelets Requisition and Administration Procedure (DCS document).

Patient must have HLA typing (HLATX), and HLA Antibody Detection and Identification (HLAIDSO) completed before HLA-matched platelets can be ordered and available for transfusion.  If HLA testing is required, turn around time for determination and availability of platelets is approximately 7-10 days.  If HLA testing previously completed, turn around time for platelets is 2-3 days.

Refer to Versiti Lab Test Menu for specimen requirements for HLA-AB Low Resolution (2303) and HLA Antibody Identificaion Class I High Resolution (2226)

Specimen Requirements

If patient's ABO/Rh is not on file in the Transfusion Service, a specimen is required.

Please refer to Versiti Lab Test Menu for HLA-AB Low Resolution (2303) and HLA Antibody Detection and Identification (2226) specimen requirements or refer to specific TRM entry for HLATX and HLAIDSO.

Test Information

"Request for HLA Matched Platelets" PowerPlan must be completed for an initial request and any  subsequent request more than 1 month from initial request for HLA-matched platelets.  All questions within the power  plan MUST be answered.  If there are any questions after completing power plan, contact Lab/Transfusion Service.  If Lab/Transfusion Service has questions about request for HLA-matched platelets, provider may be contacted.

When notified that HLA-matched platelet is available for transfusion, provider MUST place an order for transfusion when indicated. Use the routine Blood Product Transfusion Power plan.  Provider should indicate under "Special Requirements-HLA Matched."

The recipient must have HLA typing (HLATX 2303) and HLA Antibody Detection and Identification (HLAIDSO 2226) prior to the availability of HLA-matched platelets.

Recipient must have blood type on file in Transfusion Service. Transfusion Service will communicate with the provider when HLA-matched platelets are available for transfusion.  A order must be placed for each transfusion request.
