Useful For

​Determining absence or presence of sperm post vasectomy.  This test code should be used if analysis is performed within 12 months of a vasectomy procedure.

Collection Processing Instructions
Recommend 3-5 days of abstinence.
Marshfield Campus - Deliver immediately to the 24 Hour Services section of lab.
All Other Facilities - Deliver immediately to Lab. If testing will not be completed within 1 day, send immediately to Marshfield Campus.  Refrigerate specimens older than 2 days.

Interpretation
  • ​​Result of None Seen or Rare would translate to AUA recommendation < 100,000/mL
  • Vasectomy should be considered a failure if any motile sperm are seen on PVSEM at 6 months after vasectomy, in which case repeat vasectomy should be considered.
