22480 Creatine Kinase, Total

Creatine Kinase, Total
Test Code: CK
Synonyms/Keywords
CK, C. Kinase, CPK
Useful For
Creatine kinase (CK) is widely distributed in the tissues of the body, with greatest activity in skeletal muscle, heart muscle and the brain.  Any damage to these tissues will result in increased excretion of CK into the blood stream.  Some conditions that contribute to increased CK include Duchenne-type muscular dystrophy, myocardial infarction, central nervous system disorders, hypothyroidism, Reye’s syndrome and other muscle trauma (surgery, injuries, severe exercise).
