Blood Gas, Cap. w/ Sodium, Potassium, Ionized Calcium
Test Components
Panel includes Blood Gas (pH, partial pressure of carbon dioxide pCO2, partial pressure of oxygen pO2, bicarbonate HCO3, base excess BE, O2 Saturation), Sodium, Potassium, and Ionized calcium
Specimen Requirements

Fasting Required Specimen Type Preferred Container/Tube Acceptable Container/Tube Specimen Volume Specimen Minimum Volume
(allows for 1 repeat)
Pediatric Minimum Volume
(no repeat)
NoWhole BloodHeparinized capillary blood gas tube300 uL140 uL
Collection Processing Instructions
For Capillary samples avoid milking or squeezing the puncture site. Place all capillary samples in a protective carrier on ice or cold pack for transport to the lab.

DO NOT introduce air into the collection tube.  Analyze immediately.
Specimen Stability Information
Specimen Type Temperature Time
Whole Blood Ambient 30 min
Interference
Potassium is only stable for 20 minutes on ice. Longer delays will cause falsely elevated results.
