22183 Alkaline Phosphatase, Total

Alkaline Phosphatase, Total
Test Code: ALKP
Synonyms/Keywords
Alk P'tase, Phosphatase, Alkaline, ALKP
Useful For
Alkaline phosphatase measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of liver, bone, parathyroid, and intestinal diseases. Serum enzyme levels of alkaline phosphatase will be increased due to enzyme induction associated with any form of biliary obstruction.  A considerable rise in ALP activity is sometimes seen in children and juveniles.  It is caused by increased osteoblast activity following accelerated bone growth.
