26704 Bun Pre & Post Hemodialysis, PDBUN

Bun Pre & Post Hemodialysis, PDBUN
Test Code: PDBUN
Synonyms/Keywords

Post Bun, Post Dialysis, Urea Nitrogen, PDBUN

Test Components

Pre-dialysis urea nitrogen, Post-dialysis urea nitrogen, height, weight, calculated total body water, urea reduction, delivered KT/V, and protein catabolic rate

Useful For

Measurement of the ratio of calcium clearance to creatinine clearance (fractional excretion of calcium) has been used primarily for distinguishing familial benign hypercalcemia from other causes of increased serum calcium in adult patients.  Generally, benign hypercalcemia is characterized by a decreased urine calcium excretion, resulting in a decreased clearance ratio.

Specimen Requirements

Collection Processing Instructions

Pre-dialysis specimen should be collected prior for use in calculations

Samples collected in a RTT or GTT must be removed from cells within one hour for storage or transport. Samples collected in gel barrier tubes must be removed from the primary tube prior to transporting to Marshfield. Do not send the primary collection tube.
