Interpretation
Highest levels are seen in the morning 3-4 hours after awakening with levels decreasing 20-40% later in the afternoon. Elevations are seen in pregnancy and postpartum lactation as well as with physical exercise and stress. Large (5-10 fold) increases are usually associated with a prolactin-secreting tumor. ​
