Swab specimens should be submitted in ESwab or any commercial swab transport system. ESwabs should arrive in the lab within 4 days of collection for optimal recovery of microbes.
See eSwab collection video for more information
Body fluids or tissues should be submitted in a sterile leak-proof container without preservatives. Tissue specimens may require a small amount of non-bacteriostatic saline to prevent drying. Gram stains will routinely be performed on all tissues and fluids, specimen volume permitting.
Up to two susceptibilities will be performed as part of the culture. Each additional susceptibility required will be individually charged. Routine susceptibilities are performed by the micro broth dilution method. MICs will be provided with each susceptibility.
