22784 Platelet Aggregation

Platelet Aggregation
Test Code: PLTAGG
Test Components
Agonsists tested:  Epinephrine, ADP, Ristocetin, Collagen and Arachidonic Acid
Useful For
Unless the provider is looking for evidence of drug efficacy (e.g. clopidogrel or aspirin resistance), it is strongly recommended that patients discontinue all medications that may inhibit platelet function.  These would include aspirin (discontinue for 7 days prior to testing) and nonsteriodal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such ibuprofen, naproxen, etc (discontinue for 3 days prior to testing).  There is also a long list of drugs which are purported to affect platelet aggregation, but the documention in the medical literature is scant and/or inconsistent.  Please contact a hemotopathologist with pre-analytical questions for platelet aggregation testing:  Gene R. Shaw, MD or Holly Berg, DO.
