Marshfield Labs has established a Quality Plan to ensure that laboratory operations deliver consistent, high quality, and cost-effective services.
Implementation of the quality plan includes the following elements:
Commercial control samples are assayed on regular schedules as a mechanism to assure accuracy of test results.
Patient results are reviewed daily to assess for trends
Managers or veterinary pathologists review unexpected or abnormal results.
Veterinary pathology staff provides consultative review and clinical correlation.
All equipment and test methods are properly validated prior to being put into use.
Validation includes Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ). To validate PQ, statistical analysis is performed of the data.
An internal audit program monitors operations and compliance to the quality plan.
All testing laboratories participate in Proficiency Testing as another mechanism to assure the accuracy of test results. Examples of Proficiency Studies include:
- External proficiency surveys
Veterinary Laboratory Association
Endocrine Quality Assurance Survey
Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene
- Internal proficiency surveys
- Competency of testing personnel is assessed on an annual basis.
Documents and Records
The laboratory creates Standard Operating Procedures for staff to ensure a consistent output.
Document control system ensures all laboratory staff have access to most current version of approved documents.
Documents undergo a regular review process.
Records are stored per defined record retention policy.
